For those of you who are not students of history or perhaps received only a public school education, allow me to get you up to speed for todays blog. The above quote is the closing line of Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg address, orated nearly a 160 years ago, during the Civil War. The speech was delivered shortly after the bloody battle of Gettysburg, which left plenty of dead, on both sides. It was designed to recognize the sacrifice of the fallen soldiers and to rally support for the continuing war effort by letting everyone know a government which serves its people, is an idea worth fighting for.
