Beliefs can easily make a person a mental cripple. Speaking as a person born and raised in a cult.

I don't question people beliefs...we are all entitled to believe what we want. What I question is how people reach those conclusions which their beliefs are built upon. Beliefs are what they are...but how you reach them is a different story. That is where the manipulation and falsehoods are employed which will either lead you to the truth or some other version of it.

Thing is, there is a distinction between facts & beliefs. Tom Brady has won 7 Super Bowls, that is a provable fact....Tom Brady is the greatest Football player ever, that is a belief - not provable. Where these people cross the line is when they take their non-provable beliefs, and proceed as though they are fact. This is why socialism gets repeatedly trotted out as a solution to societal ills. It has failed everywhere it has ever been tried (fact), and yet these loons still believe it will work. Insane.

They feel their version of socialism is better...imagine that idea.

I lived abroad for 16 years in two different LA countries...when the cops shoot first, ask questions later, it makes you appreciate what we have here. No form of socialism is good for those living under it.
